Simulation in Action

Debriefing represents an important phase of any simulation. During the debriefing, learners have the opportunity to reflect on what happened during their hands-on experience with the simulator. Guided by an instructor, learners discover what worked and what did not, make plans for improving future interventions, and get the chance to critically appraise their own performance including analyzing how they worked together as a team.

Some high-fidelity simulators have their own debriefing software packages that include simulator generated data, audio/video recordings, and monitor display data. At left is as example of a debriefing software package that instructors can use to help guide learners through a discussion of their actions with the simulator.
